Clubbing and DJ’ing where my life, I lived for the weekend, unfortunatly I developed a bit of an alcohol problem and have had to give up alcohol. But is it possible to still enjoy clubbing sober? I mean I love the music, but unfortunatly that entire industry is fueled by drink and drugs
I don’t want to give up clubbing but if the temptaion to drink is to much I feel I may have to
Any advice?

I hear ya – "when in Rome" as they say. Would you go to a casino and not gamble? I would stay out of the clubs altogether. Everyone has their day in the sun. Clubs get old and so do we. If you do go sober – you will realize how lame the clubs really are.

I’m somewhat in the same boat as you. I’m a newly sober musician, only 24, and I have to say that I do feel somewhat out of place when we do shows and everyone around me (except my gf and our bassist) are drinking and smoking. I’m just there for the music though, and most of the people there are there for the drinking. I think you can still enjoy it though if music is what you truly enjoy.

Yes I had a Mormon friend that played pool at a bar with me

As a recovering alcoholic of nearly 3 years, its the hardest part. Giving up people and places is hard, but then its worth it to stay sober. One day your be able to walk into such places, I can’t as yet for long, maybe half hour or so maximum, but were all so different. Well done for giving it up, are you in AA, they have some great partie’s, holidays, ect…. Enjoy being sober, life gets really good. Trust me, Its worth giving up. Good Luck. xx

Depends on how much you love music

Forget about it, I’m afraid. I went to the nightclub stone cold sober once and I lasted 5 minutes, I had to go. No craic, everyones boozed up and bumping into you and talking shite. You’d never stick it without drink.

Hell yeah – I don’t drink but can still enjoy clubbing. Sad little repressed, inhibited people who need to get blind drunk before they can loosen up enough to dance and have a good time are pitiful.
Why are we Brits so uptight that we feel we have to get wasted before we can enjoy ourselves? Its just tragic
Just enjoy the vibe, the music, the company of your mates, the thrill of being out and about on Friday night. You don’t need alcohol.

It’s possible to have a good time clubbing without the alcohol.
I used to go alcohol free regularly as we took it in turns to drive on our nights out to save on cab fare.
If anything i had more fun when sober as no one else knew i was sober (apart from my mates) so i could get up to mischief without the hangover!!
It’s also a darn site cheaper to not drink when clubbing as their prices are over inflated.
If you really think you won’t be able to avoid the temptation of the alcohol then don’t go but if you feel strong enough to reject it then go and have a good (sober) time.
Maybe if you drive there you’ll have more of a reason not to drink as you won’t be able to get home!!??
Go and have fun.

I applaud your sobriety!!! Yes if you have moral fortitude, you can do it. Besides its so much fun to sit and people watch, and laugh at all the crazy’s getting drunk and making fools of themselves. If you think you can handle it, you can go and not drink, or just drink non-alcoholic drinks. But if you feel it would be to much temptation, please stay away. I wish you luck. ONCE AN ALCOHOLIC, ALWAYS AN ALCOHOLIC.
BUT BE A RECOVERING ALCOHOLIC.

I think you should still go, go with someone you can trust who will look out for you and make sure you don’t touch drink or drugs. If the temptation is too much when you get there, give it up for a while and then go back and see what happens.
It would be ashame to stop going, if you enjoy it so much.
Good luck.!!!!

I had to quit drinking for a while due to medical problems. I still went out with my friends. I would drink soda with a squeeze of lime. Still had a good time. Of course this will not work if you need to get a buzz to open up and have fun.
