    Yep, ideally you’d …
Yep, ideally you’d also want to do nice concise quick mixes, if you send a manager an 80 minute house mix with 12 songs on it, he/she won’t listen to the whole thing.

By quick I don’t mean cut mixes, quick as in don’t idle on the tracks too long :)

    Great idea – except …
Great idea – except have you SEEN a URL for youtube. Do you think a Manager is going to be arsed typing in a character string that makes a Microsoft Product Key look brief… just to hear a crappy mix of the same old tedious tracks being played everywhere else ? This is where an email is far superior – links can be clicked !

  11. EdlwssPyrt says:

do a couple of your …
do a couple of your own nights at house parties for yourself or mates or whoever, then use the videos of them to get proper work. just an idea

  12. KARTOMAGAS says:

    How about recording …
How about recording some mixes to CD and sending letter with CD to a manager?

Or you can just sit at home and knock things you have never tried. Maybe first ry it before you knock it, bro. Where do you think clubs came from anyways?

    I’m also wondering …
I’m also wondering what to do with the catch 22 situation? Big techno clubs won’t book you because you don’t have a name or a proven track record, small pubs and clubs only really play chart music so they won’t book you, and small techno nights are often cliquey and are run by DJs who want to play themselves. Am I being defeatist or realistic – or both? I’m thinking producing or your own night may be the only way through, especially not coming from a decent clubbing city. Any tips or thoughts?

  20. DJPeteJames says:

How can you make a …
How can you make a 10 min mix without it being gimmicky when deep techno music needs time to build and flow?

  21. djmikeinthemix says:

    actually….every …
actually….every area of the planet is different and nobody but the dj can or will read the place out. Myself…i only go and talk not to the manager but to the one in charge of the music. (wich is not allways the manager) My bussines card speaks for itself i did leave nothing out. My clothing will do the second part..and as the other guy said earlier..my confidence will seal the deal. getting a gig is not hard for me. getting paid what i want is the only haggle..wich i win everytime. cheers.

    I suggest you use …
I suggest you use tables plus the program, especially if you wanna get work doing stuff live. Also when using the tables feel free to pause when only one table is running and make note of the time, use it as a checkpoint so if you screw up you can restart the mix from that point, and then just chop and fix via software :P

    I remember i went …
I remember i went into a Yatess bar in Croydon and said to the manager. I am such a excellent DJ that i will give you 1 free night of my DJ ing services and i know you will pay me to come back, i am that good. You have nothing to lose and you will gain me. I ended up playing in there for 6 months. Confidance is the key
